We make a range of food which is free from meat, egg, and dairy. Our food makes eating a plant-based diet not only easy, but delicious.
Yes, all our food is vegan and endorsed by the Vegan Society of the UK.
Most of our products are Halaal, Kosher and Shuddha certified. Please view back of pack on all products to see endorsement logo.
Fry’s has many products that are Halaal certified to let Muslim customers know that there is no alcohol present in the production process. We do not have animal products in our food therefore this certification has nothing to do with treatment of animals. Please view back of pack on all products to see endorsement logo.
Palm oil is used in the pastry of our Pies and Sausage Rolls. It accounts for less than 1.5% and 0.4% of the final product. For a full response from our Marketing Director, Tammy Fry Kelly, please click here.
Our soy is not sourced from Brazil due to the rate of deforestation to clear land for soy crops and the introduction of Genetically Modified beans. We can assure you that our beans are grown sustainably in the EU and are identity preserved from the land on which they are grown to our facility in South Africa.
We have zero tolerance for genetic modification and independently test our crops once they arrive at our plant. As a family committed to making a difference in the world, we do promise that we take ingredient sourcing very seriously and use ingredients that align with our personal values.
Please keep in mind that bad science always looks at nutrients in isolation and never considers the ‘whole food’ which leads to disturbingly misleading conclusions. Additionally, part of the misconceptions come from the meat industry that have attacked soy in an attempt to protect meat sales, and other professionals have jumped on this bandwagon – usually for their own financial benefit. I think the main points to remember when looking at new information are to evaluate the source of the information and the science that backs it up. The truth is that there are hundreds of studies on soy – and they actually indicate that soy is very healthful. Many of these studies are freely available online through Google Scholar, which lists studies published in peer reviewed nutrition and medical journals. There is a common misconception about soy and its influence on hormones which is usually brought up by people who eat meat. This is because soy contains phytoestrogens or isoflavones which are plant derived hormones. Meat and milk in actual fact contain oestrogen which is far stronger than the phytoestrogens contained in plants.
Lowered risks of certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis have all been attributed to soya foods containing isoflavones. Isoflavones are described as phytoestrogens (plant oestrogens) because their structure and metabolism resembles that of human oestrogens. These plant oestrogens are much weaker than naturally circulating human oestrogens and they have approximately 1/1000th of the biological activity of synthetic oestrogens.
We have worked extensively with an independent registered dietician who compiled this article

As a final word, all the ingredients used in our products are completely non genetically modified, including our soy. We import all of our soy to ensure that it is 100% NON GMO as soy in South Africa is generally genetically modified. This status is verified by an independent auditing firm. Samples from each batch are independently tested. This is very important to us as a family so we take a very strong stance on this.
Unfortunately we have temporarily discontinued our new Dairy Free Ice Cream. For a full response from our Marketing Director, Tammy Fry Kelly, please click here.
Our food is made from a blend of vegetable proteins which come from legumes and grains; we then use natural flavours and spices to mimic the taste of meat.
Many people love the taste of meat, but choose not to eat because of their health, compassion towards animals or to reduce their environmental footprint. Fry’s makes eating a plant-based diet that much easier and convenient by allowing you to eat the foods you know without meat, egg, and dairy.
Fry’s is a complete protein – containing all the essential amino acids. Our food is high in protein, a source of fibre and is naturally cholesterol free.
We use soy in our food; between 15 – 30% on average. Please read the back of pack or refer to our website for full ingredient listing.
Our entire range of food is NON GMO; we ensure that all ingredients used are sourced from producers that adhere to our strict standards. We also test our raw materials with the University of the Free State to ensure that all ingredients are free from genetically modified organisms.
